Larimer County Sheriff's Office
On the morning of Sunday, June 29th, deputies were dispatched to a report of males going through unlocked cars in the area of East Turner Avenue in Berthoud. An initial search was conducted in the neighborhood, but the suspects were not located. A short time later Larimer County Communications received a call that these same males had gotten into a vehicle and left the area. The vehicle was located and stopped by deputies near Campion.
Deputies conducted interviews with all three males, and subsequently they confessed to prowling cars in the area of Mt. Massive and Turner Avenue. As the investigation continued, it was determined that the three males were also involved in burglaries (going into garages to steal tools), criminal mischief (breaking various vending machines, business signs, windows, and mailboxes), and arson (burning a youth size motorcycle) in and around the towns of Berthoud and Campion.
After their confessions the two males that were over 18 were taken into custody and filing documents were accepted by the District Attorney’s Office charging the males with the following:
2 counts of First Degree Criminal Trespass – Class 5 Felony
2 counts of Second Degree Burglary – Class 3 Felony
1 count of Second Degree Arson – Class 4 Felony
1 count of Theft $1000-$20000 – Class 4 felony
1 count of Felony Criminal Mischief – Class 4 Felony
The two males were identified as RILEY BLACK and WESLEY EDMUNDS, the third male was a juvenile, and he was turned over to his mother pending further charges.
The charge(s) are merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
