Health & Environment

Mission: To promote a healthy community and reduce unnecessary suffering caused by preventable disease, disability, or death. This mission is accomplished by providing community health and environmental health services, communicable disease control, health education, vital records management, health data assessment, development of policies that advance the public's health, and advocacy for community-based services that provide needed health care.

Community Health Services
The Community Health Services Division promotes the health and well-being of Larimer County residents through a variety of health programs and services, including:

  • Immunizations - School; infant and children's; adult; international travel
  • Family Planning Services - Birth control; Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs); Reproductive health education
  • Maternal Service Programs - Nurse home visitation programs; Prenatal Plus; access to prenatal and postpartum services
  • Healthcare program for Children with Special Health Needs (HCP)
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
  • Medicaid Outreach Program for children and pregnant women (EPSDT)
  • Adult Health Services
  • Tobacco Education and Prevention Program
  • Communicable disease program

Environmental Health Services
The Environmental Health Division's mission is concerned with controlling environmental conditions, both natural and man-made, to protect human health and well-being. Programs include:

  • air and water quality
  • food safety and restaurant inspection
  • environmental planning
  • septic systems
  • hazardous waste and cleanup
  • diseases carried by insects and/or animals
  • emergency preparedness and response
  • pandemic flu preparedness
