Larry Abrahamson was chosen District Attorney in an unopposed election in 2004 and again in 2008. After graduation from the University of Wyoming Law School in 1970, he prosecuted county court cases in Grand County Colorado before moving to Fort Collins. He joined the Eighth Judicial office in 1972 and was appointed Chief in 1975, and 1st Assistant to Stu VanMeveren in 2002.

Larry received a Regular Army Commission in 1967 and commanded a Combat Engineer Reserve Unit until he resigned in 1975 to pursue his prosecution career on a full time basis. As an attorney and community member he has been recognized by receiving the Judge Conrad Ball Award, the Judge Evans Award, Partners Lifetime Achievement Award, and Sertoman of the Year.

As a prosecutor Larry has worked with the formation of many criminal justice programs, agencies and organizations. He had a personal role in starting the following local programs: Partners Mentoring, The Family Center/ La Familia, Team Fort Collins, Larimer County Community Corrections, both adult and juvenile drug courts, the Youth Services Bureau. He was also involved in a supporting role with numerous other agencies that focus on providing this community with a quality criminal and juvenile justice system.

Along with supporting effective start-up programs, Larry has been published in the National District Attorneys Association "The Prosecutor" magazine, prepared community booklets on Elder Fraud, Identity Theft, and The Responsibilities and Rights of Juveniles. He has taught several courses for the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina, as well as for the American Prosecutor's Research Institute. He has lectured and presented workshops on the criminal system and juvenile justice at Colorado State University, The National Institute on Crime and Delinquency, the National Juvenile Justice Conference, and the National Drug Court Conference, as well as several local civic groups and organizations.

Larry is committed to providing a quality criminal justice system in the Eighth Judicial District that is predicated on fairness, honesty and a commitment to do what is right in every case. His statement summarizes his values and dedication as a prosecutor in our community:

Larry is married with three sons, a daughter and four grandchildren. He and his family have lived in Fort Collins since 1970.
