Lew is the Larimer County Commissioner representing District 1 which is the northern third of Larimer County. He was appointed in a vacancy election in January 2010.

Steve was elected Larimer County Commissioner in 2008 representing District 2 which is the middle third of the county. He took office January 13, 2009.
Career:
- Veterinarian, practiced veterinary medicine in Loveland for 16 years, owned Allard Animal Hospital in Loveland;
- Taught Science, History and Government at Heritage Christian High School in Fort Collins;
- Currently teaches Organic Chemistry at C.S.U.
Government:
- Elected to Colorado Senate for District 15 in 2002 and 2006.
- Served as Assistant Minority Leader 2005-2006.
- Served on Joint Budget Committee for the 2007 and 2008 session
- Served on Senate Appropriations Committee for 2007 and 2008 session
- Elected to Colorado House in 1996, 1998 and 2000.
- Served as Majority Caucus Chairman in the House.
- Past Chairman, Fort Collins Urban Growth Area Review Board;
- Past chairman, Larimer County Planning Commission;
- Past Chairman, Larimer County Republican Party, 1991-92;
Legislative Accomplishments:
- Senate sponsor of Referendum C
- Original sponsor of the No Sales Call List in Colorado
- Secured funding to reopen the Loveland Driver's License Office which was closed during the budget cuts of the 2001 recession,
- Secured additional funding for the CSU Veterinary Hospital and Front Range Community College
- Updated Colorado's mining law to protect groundwater from in-situ Uranium mining operations.

- Past president of United Way of Loveland, Berthoud, Estes Park;
- Past member of the Board of Directors of the Loveland Chamber of Commerce.
