Removal of Placards: Building Official Fried states that Green "Inspected" placards, which indicated that structures were assessed as safe to occupy, can now be removed. New Building Codes Took Effect January 1, 2014

As of January 1, 2014, Larimer County updated its adopted building codes to the 2012 International codes. All permit applications submitted on or after that date must be designed to the 2012 codes. See a list of some of the most significant changes to the residential, building, energy conservation and other codes. You can read the full residential amendment packet and the commercial amendments if you are interested. These amendments were reviewed and approved by a county/community Code Review Committee, the Board of Appeals and Planning Commission, and adopted on October 14, 2013 by the Board of County Commissioners.

We want to help everyone understand the changes embodied in the new codes, including the requirements for a blower door test for new homes and businesses, and the need for whole-house mechanical ventilation. We are currently updating our customer handouts and will post more information to our website soon. We can schedule training classes, if there is customer demand for it. Please let us know if you would like a workshop on the new codes, and we can arrange that for early 2014.

Roofing Certification

Effective March 1, 2013, permits for roof coverings applied for on or after this date will require a roofing certification form at the time of inspection for all areas of unincorporated Larimer County. This certification must be filled out by the owner or contractor doing the work. Previously, certifications were only required for high wind areas. Go to: Roofing Handout and Certification Form
