Horsetooth Reservoir

The 3rd Annual Horsetooth Tri Training and Open Water Swim Series is a weekly non-competitive training event offering a swim and run or swim only option for participants. It will be held every Wednesday evening during the summer for 9 weeks, starting June 4th and ending August 6th, 2014, there will be no event on Wednesday July 2nd due to the July 4th holiday.

The objective of the event is to provide a quality event for local and surrounding area residents to practice their triathlon skills (open water swim, transition, 5k run) or open water swimming in a safe and enjoyable environment.

The swim course will consits of a 500m or 750m loop starting and ending at the Horsetooth South Inlet Bay swim beach. Participants will have the option of doing 1 or multiple laps of the course up to a max swim distance of 3000m. The transition area will be located at the top of the ramp in the covered picnic table area. The 5k run course starts and ends near the transition area at the very south end of the parking lot and the course is an out and back run on the camp road around the south end of the reservoir to the dead end turn around. The run course stays entirely inside the park.

The swim course will be monitored by kayaks and SUPs (Stand Up Paddle boards) and lifeguards will be located on the shore along the course and EMS/ambulance will be on location at start/finish area. Traffic control will be provided by event staff using cones and signage along the 5k course and trained staff/volunteers.

Green Events owns and manages premier athletic events in a safe, and environmental and social sustainable manner. We are dedicated to providing events with as minimal impact as possible on the environment and venue while inspiring and educating participants to make more environmentally responsible decisions during the event as well as in their daily lives. Our focus is on reducing/divirting waste, reducing carbon and water footprints, using a green supply chain and working with like minded partners.

Participant waivers are attached. The event is sanctioned/insured by USA Triathlon so all participants must be a member of USAT, thus they will sign 2 waivers when they register; the USAT participant waiver and Green Events' event specific waiver.

Comments: Please ensure that a detailed emergency communications plan is available, and that all staff and volunteers are familiar with the plan.

Food service at aid stations does not require a licensed vendor provided food and beverage service is limited to:

• Service of commercially prepared and individually packaged foods and beverages that do not require refrigeration. Examples include packaged candy, power bars, bottled water, soda or juice.

• Service of hot coffee, tea, instant hot beverages.

• Service of donuts, bagels or pastries that are commercially prepared and do not require refrigeration.

• Service of whole uncut fruits and vegetables.

• Service of water from a public supply transported and dispensed in clean containers designed for potable water service.

The Larimer County Department of Health & Environment is available to consult on food safety concerns, and on licensing provisions for vendors involving food service beyond that listed above. Information is available on our website at

Adequate toilets need to be provided at the start/finish area and as necessary at aid stations.

This event will occur on County open space. Details regarding the number of facilities and capacity for the event need to be coordinated with the Natural Resources Department.
