Red Mountain Open Space
I would like to conduct Herpetofaunal surveys in certain locations of Red Mountain Open Space. These surveys would most likely happen in the evenings, with the possibility of some morning / afternoon surveys happening on the weekends. Some weeks we might conduct them a couple days a week, other weeks perhaps just one day. I would like to put boards in some areas as well as several snake species are attracted to the cover of boards, a few that does this that I am interested in trying to locate up there is Milksnake and Plains Black-headed Snakes. We will also need to look under rocks that we are able to move to find everything we can, but we will place the rocks as close to how we found it was we can. We will be photographing the Herptiles and getting coordinates of each individual herp we find and then letting them go on their way. We will be very cautious of Prairie Rattlesnakes in the area, which very rarely use the boards as cover, but it still happens. The people that participate in the surveys will be experienced in the Herptile field and know to be careful when doing the surveys.
