The Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, annual sponsor of the Rist Canyon Mountain Festival along with the Stove Prairie School PTO will be sponsoring the 3rd annual Old Flowers Road Run. The run will be held on Saturday, August 24th starting at 8:00 A.M. with the starting point at Stove Prairie Road and Old Flowers Road (Stove Prairie School). The run will proceed on Old Flowers Road to Sky Corral Ranch and then turn around and come back to Stove Prairie Road. There will be no dogs allowed to run with their owners. After the run there will be awards given out and the runners will enjoy refreshments. Bottled water will be handed out along the run route. Residences along the run route will be contacted to insure their support as in 2012.
Health: Portable Port-a-lets will be provided for runners at approximately 1.5 miles and 2.5 miles along the run route. Toilet facilities will be provided at the start/registration located at Stove Prairie School. Trash removal: Trash bin is located at Stove Prairie School and Old Flowers Road. There will be a water station located at the 3.1 mile turn around point. All paper / plastic bottles will be picked up after runners leave the area. Refreshments to be furnished after the run will be bagels, bananas, oranges and cookies. Local PTO and RCVFD volunteers will handle all trash removal at the start, aid stations, along the route and finish point. All items that are recyclable will be kept separate. The main goal is to leave Old Flowers Road cleaner than it was before the run.
CDOT: In 2011 CDOT approved the run as not impacting CDOT.
Colorado State Patrol: Approved the run with no CSP permit needed, no impact to State or Federal Highways.
Engineering: Approved in 2011 pending no construction Projects, however if things changed Engineering will update our application.
Parks & Open Lands: Approved in 2011 as the event did not appear to affect areas managed by the Department of Natural Resources.
Risk Management: Certificate of insurance provided for 2012 with Larimer County named as certificate holder.
Rist Canyon Fire Department: Approved with RCVFD to provide active medical and traffic support during the event using RCVFD trained emergency personnel and apparatus.
Sheriff: There is no reliable cell phone coverage in the area. Primary day of the event communications will be: Rist Canyon Command via 900 on EMS North, or Firenet. We are also 800 MHz capable.

NOTE: The 2012 event was cancelled due to the High Park Fire.

Please ensure that a detailed emergency communications plan is available, and that all staff and volunteers are familiar with the plan.

Food service at aid stations does not require a licensed vendor provided food and beverage service is limited to:

• Service of commercially prepared and individually packaged foods and beverages that do not require refrigeration. Examples include packaged candy, power bars, bottled water, soda or juice.

• Service of hot coffee, tea, instant hot beverages.

• Service of donuts, bagels or pastries that are commercially prepared and do not require refrigeration.

• Service of whole uncut fruits and vegetables.

• Service of water from a public supply transported and dispensed in clean containers designed for potable water service.

The Larimer County Department of Health & Environment is available to consult on food safety concerns, and on licensing provisions for vendors involving food service beyond that listed above. Information is available on our website at

Adequate toilets need to be provided at the start/finish area and as necessary at aid stations.
