DHS Ed Rutherford hands David McKibbin Award

The Larimer County Office on Aging’s Advisory Council today awarded the 2014 Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award to David McKibbin, PhD, of Fort Collins, and the 2014 Outstanding Family Caregiver Award to Sandy Phillips of Loveland. The event celebrates Older American’s Month in May annually.

McKibbin was nominated for Outstanding Senior Volunteer by residents of several retirement communities because of his outstanding volunteer efforts. McKibbin lectures on American history at the residences through PowerPoints, photos, music and related video. He apparently has a devoted following.
Phillips was nominated for Outstanding Family Caregiver due to her support for her entire family including parents and siblings. The nomination points out that many people think of a caregiver as someone taking care of one person, not an entire family. The nominator goes on to point out that Sandy retains an upbeat attitude and sense of humor.
The Office on Aging took nominations in March and April. Since 1963, communities across the nation have come together to celebrate Older Americans Month—a proud tradition that shows our nation’s commitment to recognizing the contributions and achievements of older Americans.
