Release Date: Apr 19, 2014
Public Information Officer
Larimer County Sheriff's Office
Larimer County Sheriff's Office had members of our Posse, Reserve Deputies, and Patrol Deputies working all day on Friday, 041814, looking for the gun that 29-year-old JIMMY LEE JONES discarded between his initial contact on Nashua Circle and his arrest on Wilson Avenue. The areas searched were on private properties and Larimer County Sheriff's Office received permission of the owners of these properties to be on their property and conduct the search.
In addition to utilizing our Posse and Reserve Deputies, Sergeant Mike Rairdon of the Wellington unit worked with the Poudre School District and their Security Service to search all school properties due to the potential for children to get hurt if they located the weapon. All of the school grounds in Wellington were searched and cleared and the weapon was not located on any school grounds.
The gun is still at large. We’d like to remind citizens that if they happen to come across the weapon, please do not touch it or handle it and call our Dispatch Center at 970-416-1985.
On April 18th, 2014, deputies obtained an additional arrest warrant for JIMMY LEE JONES, DOB: 013185, charging him with Assault in the Second Degree, a class 4 felony. This warrant is regarding a case at the T-Bar Inn which occurred on the night/early morning of 040414/040514 when JONES is alleged to have hit another male, which resulted in serious injury to the victim’s jaw that required medical attention. Larimer County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to this disturbance at the T-Bar. A deputy had made contact with a group of people walking with away from the T-Bar that night and JONES was part of that group. JONES fled the scene of the group contact. This charge of Assault in the Second Degree has been added to Mr. JONES’ charges at the Larimer County Jail.
The case regarding the domestic disturbance on Nashua Circle is still under investigation and the search for the missing weapon continues. No further details are available at this time.
The charge(s) are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
