Property: Childers / Henning Conservation Easement
Priority Area: Estes Valley (map)
Size: 160 acres

Crafted by the Estes Valley Land Trust, this conservation easement covers land in the Tahosa Valley. The property contains 3 beautiful meadows and a small stream on 160 acres near the Longs Peak campground and trailhead. The land is not open to the public, but the easement protects important wildlife habitat and a visual corridor to Longs Peak. This conservation easement was made possible by a generous bequest. Many people, as part of their last will and testament, choose to leave part of their estate to endeavors such as this. Martha Steinbach is one such person, and it is with great appreciation that we thank her for her vision on behalf of present and future generations.

Management Plan

When only the development rights of a property are purchased, as in the case of a conservation easement, any future development of that land is limited. The landowner continues to manage the property, and the land remains on the tax rolls. Land with a conservation easement is not generally open to the public because it is still in private ownership.

While the landowners manage the land the Estes Valley Land Trust monitors the land and the conservation easement.
