Clerk and Recorder, Angela Myers, today announced plans for handling election details in Larimer County areas affected by the flood.
“We had communications with the Secretary of State’s office, as well as other affected counties late last week,” Myers said. “We proposed several ideas and received formal notice of temporary rules from the Secretary’s office on Friday.”
Larimer County requested and was granted permission to mail ballots early. As of today, ballots for the affected areas are in the clerk’s hands and ready to mail out to those voters on Tuesday, October 8th. Ballots will be mailed early only to those areas affected by the floods – specifically Larimer voters in Lyons, Estes Park, and areas surrounding Estes Park.
“Mailing these ballots early enables us to make a second attempt at contacting voters who have temporarily relocated, should their ballots be returned to us as undeliverable,” Myers said, “and allows them time to take action by the end of Election Day.”
The Clerk’s office reminds all registered voters to contact the Elections Office with change of address information any time they move – whether it’s due to an emergency or not.
Voters in the affected areas may return their ballots to any one of the following three drop-off locations between 8a and 5p, beginning Wednesday, October 9th. All ballots must be RECEIVED (not simply post marked) by the Clerk and Recorders office no later than 7p on Election Day, November 5, 2013.
