Health Dept. receives donation of Boppy pillows for new moms
Department: Health & Environment
Release Date: May 9, 2013
Every new mom, and her baby, can use support. Especially when the mom is young and single and lacks many of the basics other parents are able to supply for their infant’s first year.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Boppy Company, which makes circular support pillows for the feeding, propping, and tummy time of infants, has donated 100 of their slipcovered pillows to moms enrolled in the Larimer County Health Department’s Nurse Family Partnership program. Consider it a Mother’s Day gift for low-income first-time mothers.
“This is both a wonderful and a very useful donation,” said Brenda Graves, RN and supervisor of the Health Department’s Nurse-Family Partnership program. “Through the Nurse-Family Partnership and donations such as this one we are able to give support to mothers and babies who need it most.”
Nurses in the Larimer County NFP program will distribute the pillows to their clients as they make their visits through the spring.
Nurse-Family Partnership is an evidence-based community program that supports new moms by providing each with a registered nurse who provides home visits throughout pregnancy until her child’s second birthday. The program helps at-risk, first-time mothers have healthy pregnancies, improve child health and development, and become more economically self-sufficient.
Based on over 35 years of proven research, the Nurse-Family Partnership program has produced significant outcomes including a reduction in preterm delivery, a reduction in smoking during pregnancy, 48% reduction in child abuse and neglect; and 56% reduction in emergency room visits for accidents and poisonings, among others. Since its inception, Nurse-Family Partnership has served 167,061 at-risk families and now serves close to 25,000 families in 42 states.
