Landscape Manager

Performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and modification of all components of the landscape process for The Ranch.


The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. The organization retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time.  

  • Receives general supervision from the Fairgrounds and Events Center Assistant Director.
  • Exercises direct and indirect supervision over assigned personnel.
  • Repair and/or supervise the maintenance of sprinkler systems, equipment, and design projects as needed.
  • Perform plumbing repairs or oversee work on valves, pipes, pump station, and related equipment.
  • Prepare grounds for each event and ensure grounds maintenance plan is in affect after each event.
  • Oversee part-time and seasonal employees for all mowing, weeding, and grounds maintenance.
  • Oversee all snow removal at The Ranch.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance program for irrigation system as well as all related equipment used for landscaping/snow removal.
  • Repair and operate landscape machinery and equipment, including mowers, blades, sweepers, and other equipment as needed to perform the duties outlined.
  • Water, mow, weed, trim, edge, renovate, and fertilize lawns, shrubs, wind breaks, pump station, and trees.
  • Clear walk areas and parking lot of trash and snow in the winter; winterize water lines and outside facilities.
  • Exercise direct, first-level supervision of positions, employees, operations, and activities within the Fairgrounds Landscape Department which may include coordinating staff training, assigning and reviewing work, participating in the interview and selection process, making recommendations impacting pay, status, and disciplinary action, evaluating performance independently or in conjunction with a higher-level supervisor/manager, and approving time off.
  • Estimate costs for construction and repair projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee all construction activities including future expansions.
  • Coordinate, manage, assign, track, and evaluate progress of individual projects and provide reports as necessary.
  • Inventory landscape tools and repair parts.
  • Purchase landscape and irrigation supplies.
  • Oversee, plan, and implement new landscape programs and inventory as identified by Fairgrounds and Events Center Assistant Director.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in landscaping and maintenance.
  • Operation, repair, and maintenance of power equipment, including tractors, trucks, and related equipment.
  • Security systems.
  • Department and County rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standard operation procedures.
  • Supervisory principles, procedures, and methods including training, discipline, selection, and evaluation.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work.
  • Perform skilled maintenance of landscaping, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment used in County fairground landscaping.
  • Identify grounds and irrigation facility problems.
  • Manage budget within Larimer County system.
  • Supervise and mentor assigned personnel in a productive and positive manner.
  • Develop and maintain necessary written records, logs, schedules, and procedures.
  • Work weekends and holidays, as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
  • Five years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities.
  • High School diploma or GED required, supplemented by coursework in facility and grounds maintenance.
  • Appropriate licenses and certifications are desirable.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License.

Physical Requirements: 
STRENGTH: HEAVY - Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

MOVEMENT: Occasionally 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours/day

  • CLIMBING - Ascending or descending using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • BALANCING - Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces; or maintaining body equilibrium when performing feats of agility.
  • STOOPING - Bending body downward and forward. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • KNEELING - Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees.
  • CROUCHING - Bending body downward and for-ward by bending legs and spine.
  • CRAWLING - Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • REACHING - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • HANDLING - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
  • FINGERING - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • FEELING - Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
AUDITORY: Not Limited
  • TALKING - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • HEARING - perceiving the nature of sounds. Used for those activities which require ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sounds, such as when making fine adjustments on running engines.
VISION: Required
  • NEAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Use this factor when special and minute accuracy is demanded.
  • FAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Use this factor when visual efficiency in terms of far acuity is required in day and night/dark conditions.
  • DEPTH PERCEPTION - Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
  • EXPOSURE TO WEATHER - Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
  • EXTREME HEAT - Exposure to non weather-related hot temperatures.
  • NOISE - Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds or a pitch or level sufficient to cause mark ed distraction or possible hearing loss.
  • VIBRATION - Exposure to a shaking object or surface. This factor is rated important when vibration causes a strain on the body or extremities.
  • PLATFORM FOR MOVEMENT - Work requires walking on uneven surfaces, climbing or working on ladders, scaffolds or heavy equipment.
  • Office equipment such as computer, projector, copier, fax etc.
  • Basic hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver, rake)
  • Power tools and small motorized equipment (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill, lawn mower, weed trimmer, floor polisher)
