Description

Provides information system technical support to departmental users.

Duties

The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. The organization retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time.  

  • Receives general supervision from a departmental/division manager.
  • Exercises no supervision.
  • Perform administrative assistant duties for the Information Services division - To include answering phones, scheduling personnel, keeping a budget, ordering equipment, paying invoices, and other administrative tasks.
  • Desktop Support for the end user - To include troubleshooting, repairing, and instruction in the use of hardware, operating system software, network operating system software, and application software. Includes the ability to lift, carry, drag, push, or pull all types of computer equipment.
  • Laptop Support for the end user - To include troubleshooting, repairing, and instruction in the use of; hardware, mobile docking and connectivity solutions, operating system software, network operating system software, and application software.
  • PDA Support for the end user - To include troubleshooting, repair oversight, and instruction in the use of hardware, syncing and connectivity solutions, operating system software, and application software.
  • Printer Installation - To include network operating system setup, printer configuration, troubleshooting, repair oversight, and instruction in the use of personal and workgroup printers.
  • Perform equipment installations, replacements and relocations as required to support the business needs of the Sheriff's Office and other agencies.
  • Maintain software and hardware registration and inventory to provide upgrades as necessary and to ensure appropriate security levels are maintained.
  • Perform basic user maintenance (passwords, demographics info, etc.) to include the administration of the county access control system.
  • Perform "hands on" work (i.e., pulling cables, writing configurations, installing/replacing hardware, etc.) when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain department system user documentation (application documentation, class outlines, how to guides); develop training programs and documentation; train users on use of department standard software and hardware (both formal and informal).
  • Develop and maintain department reporting using Crystal Reports.
  • Provide internal department help desk function to users; respond to and resolve user hardware and software issues; perform one-on-one training of users on standard and department specific software and hardware; Provide daily updates to the help desk ticket system with customer issues, problems, and results of office automation activities.
  • Perform work as part of a project team.
  • Assist managers in determining needs and feasibility of new software or hardware additions or modifications; work with vendors to research new products; make appropriate recommendations.
  • Fulfill departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Operation of standard office equipment including fax machines, copiers, and computers.
  • Modern office practices and procedures.
  • Department and County rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standard operation procedures.
  • Business application software, including but not limited to, Microsoft XP ® operating system, Novell GroupWise e-mail, Crystal Reports report writing software, document imaging solutions, Microsoft Word ®, Microsoft Excel ®, Microsoft PowerPoint ®, and Microsoft Access ®.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Federal, state, or local government business practices.
  • Networking, desktop, and connectivity principles and methods.
  • Microcomputer and related peripherals and equipment.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely verbally, in writing, and via various forms of electronic media.
  • Organize material and present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
  • Interpret and apply Sheriff's Office and county policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve end user issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities.
  • Equivalent to an associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in information technology, computer science, or a related field. (Equivalency is based on two years of high level experience equaling one year of college work. For example, an employee with no college would require 4 years of high level experience to reach the equivalency of the associate's degree. It is obligatory upon the incumbent to provide proof of equivalency for review and ultimate acceptance by the Sheriff.)
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must have acceptable eyesight, including clear near and far vision, good depth of field and the ability to differentiate all visible colors.
  • Must have adequate hearing to perform job function.
  • Must have appropriate voice skills to be clearly understood on the telephone and in public contacts.
  • Must have fine and gross motor skills and use of arms, hands, and fingers to perform computer duties and operate equipment.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk up to 2 miles per 8 hour work day.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, twist, reach, kneel, squat and balance.
  • Must be able to lift up to 115 lbs. without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to routinely lift 45 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry up to 35 lbs a distance of 100 ft., up a single flight of stairs.
  • Must be able to drag or slide up to 200 lbs a distance of 4 ft.
  • Must be able to push or pull a cart or dolly weighing up to 500 lbs (10 lbs pull/push force) up to 2000 ft. per 8 hour work day.
  • Must be able to push or pull a cart or dolly with 150 lbs of equipment up to 2 miles per 8 hour work day.
  • Must be able to pull cable in overhead cable management system (up to 40 lbs pulling force).
  • Must be able to climb ladders 10' high, crawl or lie under desks 28" high, or enter small confined areas 16" deep.
  • Must be able to work under stressful situations.
  • Must have good cognitive skills and awareness of work accuracy.
  • Must have ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time.
  • Must have ability to make independent decisions.
