Special Needs Adoption
The Special Needs Adoption Program matches adults with children who have (or are expected to) become legally free for adoption as a result of physical, sexual or emotional abuse. "Special needs" children may include children with physical or emotional handicaps, older children, or sibling groups who need to be placed together. Services to the children include a thorough assessment of the child(ren)'s special needs, referrals for therapy as needed, recruitment of an appropriate adoptive family, pre and post placement services and preparation of necessary documents to file in court. Eligible children and their adoptive families may receive a monthly stipend and Medicaid coverage under the adoption subsidy program.
