Frequently Asked Voting Questions

  1. How do I vote by mail?
    Complete and sign the Combination Voter Registration and Mail-In Ballot Application. Be sure to check the box next to "Add my name to the list" if you wish to become a permanent mail-in voter. The Elections Department will automatically send a mail-in ballot to all permanent mail-in voters for all elections conducted by the county.

    Mail ballots are not forwardable by U.S. mail. To make certain your mail ballot is sent to the correct address, all address changes should be made 29 days or more before the election.
  2. Where do I vote?
    This depends on the type of election being conducted. In a mail ballot election, ballots are automatically sent to eligible voters. In a Vote Center election, various voting locations are available throughout the county that allow voters to cast their ballot at any site they choose. These locations are posted on the Elections website under the Current Election tab.
  3. When do I vote?
    City elections are the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April each year. (H.R.C. Article VIII, Section 2)

    Special district elections are the Tuesday after the first Monday in May in even-number years. C.R.S. 32-1-103(17)

    Primary elections are the last Tuesday in June of each even-numbered year. C.R.S. 1-1-104(32)

    General elections are the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years. C.R.S. 1-1-104(17)

    Coordinated elections are the first Tuesday in November in odd-numbered years. C.R.S. 1-41-102(1)
  4. What if I make a mistake on my ballot?
    If you need a replacement ballot or did not receive the original ballot, call the Elections Department at (970) 498-7820. A replacement ballot will be issued along with an affidavit. The affidavit must be signed and returned along with your replacement ballot.

    Voters may receive up to two replacement ballots.
  5. How do I become eligible to vote?
    In order to be eligible to vote, you must be eighteen years of age or older on or before Election Day and a United States citizen.

    You must also register to vote in the county in which you reside. You must register 29 days or more before an election to be eligible to vote in that election.
  6. How do I update my address?
    If you move from your voter registration address, you must change your address with the County Clerk and Recorder. You may update your address in person, online, by mail, by fax or by email.

  7. Will my mail ballot count?
    Yes. In Colorado, a vote cast by mail ballot is counted the same as a vote cast on Election Day.
  8. Will my provisional ballot count?
    If you are a qualified voter in Larimer County, your provisional ballot will count. A qualified elector must:
    • Be registered to vote in Colorado no later than 29 days before an election;
    • Be a resident of Larimer county on or before 30 days prior to an election; and
    • Sign the affidavit on the provisional envelope
  9. How may I obtain a certified document of registration for in-state tuition purposes or other purposes?
    The certificate costs $1.25 and can be obtained in person or by mail. Checks and cash are accepted. Voter information cards are also available free of charge.

    Include in your request your printed name, date of birth, residence address, mailing address (if different from your residence address) and signature. You may also provide a fax number if you would like the certificate faxed to you.
