2010 Important Election Dates

March 16	Tuesday	Precinct Caucus Day
March 29	Monday	First day to circulate major/minor party candidate petitions for the Primary Election.
April 30	Friday	Earliest day an unaffiliated candidate may circulate a petition for county, district, state and federal offices for the General Election.
May 27	Thursday	Last Day to file major/minor party candidate petitions for the Primary Election.
June 15	Tuesday	Last Day to file an unaffiliated candidate nomination petition for the General Election.
July 12	Monday	Last day to register to vote for the Primary Election. Last day to change or withdraw from major political party affiliation (registered unaffiliated electors may declare a major political party affiliation at the polls for the Primary Election. Last day to file an initiative petition with the Secretary of State for the General Election.
July 19	Monday	First day allowed by statute for the designated election official to send mail or mail-in ballot packets to eligible voters for the Primary Election. Excludes UOCAVA
July 23	Friday	Last day for a political subdivision to notify the County Clerk in writing if it has taken formal action to participate in the General Election.
August 3	Tuesday	Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the Primary Election if the elector wishes to receive their ballot by mail.
August 10	Tuesday	PRIMARY ELECTION. Polls open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
August 18	Wednesday	Last day to receive absent uniformed service elector's ballot (by close of business). In the case of a discrepancy or missing signature, last day for elector who voted by mail to return form confirming that they did send a ballot to the County Clerk. In the case of a missing signature from a provisional ballot envelope, last day for a voter to appear in the office of the County Clerk to sign their provisional ballot affidavit envelope.
August 23	Monday	Last day for the County Board of Canvassers to prepare official Abstract of Votes for the Primary Election. Election results are not official until this time.
August 24	Tuesday	Last day to file an affidavit of intent to run as a write-in candidate for the General Election.
September 17	Friday	Last day to file pro/con comments pertaining to local ballot issues with the designated election official in order to be included in the ballot issue notice.
October 4	Monday	Last day to register to vote for the General Election.
October 12	Tuesday	First day allowed by statute for the designated election official to send mail-in ballot packets to voters with mail-in requests. Excludes UOCAVA
October 26	Tuesday	Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the General Election if the elector wishes to receive their ballot by mail.
November 2	Tuesday	GENERAL ELECTION. Polls open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
November 10	Wednesday	Last day to receive absent uniformed service elector's ballot (by close of business).
