What the above data tell us: In Larimer County, the largest percentage of 2010 alcohol treatment admissions was among 25 to 34 year olds, followed by 18 to 24 year olds. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reports that in 2010, among young adults aged 18 to 25, the rate of binge drinking was 40.6%, and the rate of heavy drinking was 13.6%. What the above data tell us: In Larimer County, nearly one third of 2010 treatment admissions for alcohol were female (30%). Nationally, in 2009 women comprised nearly 27% of all alcohol treatment admissions. What the above data tell us: In 2010, Whites made up approximately 90.5% of the population in Larimer County and were underrepresented in alcohol treatment admissions (81.8%). In comparison, Hispanics made up an estimated 10.6% of the county's population and 13.6% of the alcohol treatment admissions. Nationally, 13% of alcohol treatment admissions in 2009 reported Hispanic ethnicity.

What the above data tell us: In 2009 Larimer County methamphetamine (meth) treatment admissions decreased nearly 13%, compared to a 23% increase the following year (2010). According to the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force, the number of methamphetamine arrests followed a similar pattern as treatment admissions.

What the above data tell us: In 2010, the largest percentage of treatment for methamphetamine (meth) was among 25 to 34 year olds.

Colorado and Larimer County made a concerted effort beginning in 2006 to reduce the number of meth labs. In 2003, 20 meth labs were dismantled by the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force. In 2010, only 1 meth lab was dismantled, however the number of pounds of meth seized went from 3.32 in 2009 to 20.36 in 2010.

According to the 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System [pdf] study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4.1% of high school students reported using methamphetamine at some point in their lifetimes. This is down from 4.4% in 2007, 6.2% in 2005 and 7.6% in 2003.

What the above data tell us: A higher percentage of women are treated for methamphetamine abuse than other forms of substance abuse. A major contributing factor is that many girls and young women begin taking methamphetamine to control their weight.

Overall, however, there are still more males than females who are admitted for methamphetamine treatment.

What the above data tell us: Treatment admissions for Driving under the Influence (DUI) peaked in 2008 at 2,824. Reported DUI admissions decreased 40.4% between 2008 and 2010, according to Colorado's Division of Behavioral Health (CDBH). In Colorado, CDBH develops and enforces regulations for Level I and Level II DUI education and treatment programs. Approximately 30,000 DUI offenders are referred to these programs each year in Colorado.
