What the above data tell us: Although the number of homes sold in the Fort Collins area from 2004 through 2011 steadily declined, there was a healthy year-over-year increase of 22.7% in 2012. The Loveland/Berthoud area also saw an uptick last year of 15.5% over 2011 sales.

Over the last decade, there have been between 1,300 and 2,000 more homes sold in the Fort Collins area than the Loveland area.

In terms of the percentage change in total dollar value of sales (i.e., sales volume) from 2011 to 2012, the Loveland/Berthoud area sales volume increased by 27.5%, while the Fort Collins/Wellington area sales volume increased by 26.1%. For dollar volume amounts, see the data table.

Compared to other areas in Colorado's Northern Front Range, the Larimer County areas of Estes Park, Fort Collins, and Loveland were low- to mid-range in terms of the median sale price for a residential unit. From 2003 to 2012, the percentage change in residential median sale price varied from a high of 38.6% in Louisville, to a low of 4.0% in Longmont.
