Double Fee Waiver

In April 2006, the Board of Larimer County Commissioners approved a proposal to waive double building permit application fees under certain conditions. The add-on fee of $380 for setback variances for existing structures was eliminated as well. Although an owner will still need to pay regular fees associated with a building permit for existing structures, the waiver will provide some assistance. Owners may need to hire licensed professionals to evaluate work completed without a required permit or inspection approval.

The 2006 International Residential Code Adoption will be amend Section R108.8 Work Commencing before permit issuance to, " any person who commences any work on a building, structure, gas, mechanical, electrical or plumbing system before obtaining the necessary permits may shall be subject to an additional fee equal to the permit fee".

Those wishing to take advantage of the double building permit application fee waiver must meet one of the following criteria.
  1. Construction work requiring a building permit completed on a building by a previous owner and the present owner want to make the construction legal.
  2. Construction work requiring a building permit completed on an existing or new building by a present owner who comes in voluntarily to bring the structure into compliance, provided the owner and/or contractor to the owner is not a repeat offender.
  3. Construction work requiring a building permit completed on a new or existing building by a present owner who responds within 10 calendar days of receiving a violation notice.
