Meeting Called to Order at 7:00 p.m. by:

Approval of January meeting minutes:

  • Motion to approve January meeting minutes made by:

Nominations and voting of Board Chairman and Vice Chairman:

    After a lengthy discussion this motion was made.

  • Motion to close the February meeting and reconvene the January meeting and complete the lot in order to decide the tie between Alan Rankin and Mike Adams for Chairman and then take nominations for Vice Chairman and vote by a show of hands was made by:

Motion was seconded by Myrna Rodenberger

Vote by show of hands - 10 yes, 4 no

  • The January meeting was closed and the February meeting opened, at this time Mike Adams took over the meeting from Secretary Kaycee Lytle.

 

Correspondence:

  • Everett passed around the flyer from the Ft. Collins Rotary Club Luncheon.  The Rotary Club presented the Fair Board with a service to agriculture award.  Their Paul Harris Award will be presented to a senior in Everett’s name.

 

Presentations:

  • Review of Planning Structure, followed by Partnering Program – Steve & Abby

o  Representing the Executive Board Committee, Steve asked members to review the copy of the flow chart from the Planning Structure document.  Steve went over it giving a through explanation.

o  Abby passed out copies of the “Partnering Program” and pointed out what being a Board liaison looks like.  She announced that Liz Garcia, new event coordinator, will take over Rochelle Karus’s past responsibilities with the Fair.

o  Larry Dunn stated that the Ft. Collins Rotary Club would like to be able to hold one of their meetings during the Fair at the Fairgrounds.  Larry suggested that we might designate a “Rotarian Day” at the Fair and invite other clubs.  He also suggested inviting the Junior High Bands to participate not he stage during the Fair.  Larry will work with Lisa on these possibilities.

 

 

 

 

  •  Ovations – Dan Peltz

o  Beer Fest is officially named the “The Gnarly Barley Brew Festival”.  It will take place only on Saturday, Aug. 1st.  Hoping for 20-30 brewers to participate in the contest.  Budweiser is getting very involved by providing various educational booths. Still working on fees for tasting.  “How to Make Root beer” contest for kids will also be part of festival.

  • Queen’s –

o  Keaton  reported on their recent events.  Continuing their “Tobacco Free Larimer County” campaign presentations at the local high schools.  Reminded everyone of the Queen’s Ball, March 14th.   Quinn handed out invitations.

 

Chairman’s Topics:  Mike Adams

  • CAFS Scholarship – Everett Van Campen

o  Offering two $500 scholarships, complete information and entry form available on Extension 4-H web site.

 

Committee Reports:

  • Animal Welfare –

o  Shannon proposed that Larimer County Fair & Rodeo be more pro-active by emphasizing and advertising the great job we do making sure animal welfare is handled properly at the Fair and Rodeo.    Board asked her to put together a presentation of what she would like to see on the Website at next meeting.

  • Pancake Breakfast – none
  •  Parade –Melora is meeting soon with Loveland Police Department to finalize the parade route and staging areas.

 

Volunteers:  Jacque Loebig

  • Committee had first meeting and determined that their monthly meetings will take place one hour prior to the Fair Board meetings in the Ft. Collins room.  She is currently looking at a computer program to help with organizing volunteers scheduling, etc.

 

Junior Livestock Sale: Gregg Melick

  • Gregg deferred to Everett Van Campen to give report.  The sale committee is developing their own website with links to the Fair, Extension, and Ranch sites.  The url is www.4hsale.com.  They are also having bumper stickers made to advertise the sale.  He also reported that sale flyers will be available at the March 21st 4-H Foundation Carnival.

 

Extension: Laurel Kubin

§  Updates to program are in the making and the premium book will only be available online.

§  Judges are being lined up.

§  CSU Alumni Day, Saturday, August 1st.  Over 22,000 registered alumni in Larimer County.  Hoping to draw large number of them to the Fair.

§  4-H Field Day and Fiber Fun Fest held Sat., Feb. 28th at The Ranch.   Expecting approximately 650 kids and parents.

§  4-H Carnival, March 21st

 

Rodeo:   None

 

Ranch Updates:  

  • Bldgs & Grounds – Abby

o  2009 smaller tents for shade instead of just one large tent.

o  Kids area in grassy triangle down from Antique Tractors

o  Corral Area offered to park parade floats during the Fair.  Everett suggested promoting this through Clover Connection .

o  Move demonstrations area to Corral to provide better accessibility.

  • Entertainment – Lisa

o  Updating website information

o  Marketing posters next meeting

o  Fireworks confirmed-more bang for our buck

o  Bands being booked

 

 

 

 

 

Other/New Business:

  • Strategy Session, Saturday, March 28th,  9-NOON in the Timnath room.

Old Business:

  • Current 2009 tentative schedule passed out.  Needs more Queen’s activities and camping information .
