LARIMER COUNTY AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY BOARD
November 13, 2013
Members present: Jennifer Bornhoft, Curtis Bridges, Karen Crumbaker, Brenda Gimeson, Charles Gindler, Debra Herston, Val Manning, Gail Meisner, John Rankin, George Reed, Richard Seaworth, and Zach Thode. Guests: Karie Sutherland, Margaret Griffin, Lisa Foster, Justin Whitesell, Larimer County Sheriff, State Rep. Randy Fischer, Mark Daily, Poudre Valley REA, and Terry Gilbert.
Members absent: David Bee, Lew Gaiter, LuAnn Goodyear, Minerva Lee, Jon Slutsky, and George Wallace.
I. Curtis Bridges called the meeting to order at 12:36 p.m.
II. The September 11, 2013 AAB Meeting Minutes were approved.
III. Introductions of AAB members and guests.
IV. State Representative Randy Fischer, House District 53 representative, provided information to the Board on the agricultural issues he is involved in. Representative Fischer is Chairman of the House Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resource Committee. The largest issue he faces in Colorado involves water.
V. Justin Whitesell, Larimer County Sheriff, reviewed with the AAB the First Amended Ordinance for the Regulation of Open Burning in Unincorporated Larimer County, Colorado, Ordinance No. 062620120001. He went through each section of the document and invited the AAB to comment. Justin stated there were issues with the burn permit and how to best educate the public on open burning. The next review of the document will take place at the November 26, 2013 Administrative Matters before the County Commissioners.
VI. Mark Daily with Poudre Valley REA discussed Senate Bill 252. SB 252 requires rural co-ops with more than 100,000 meters, and utilities that generate and supply electricity on behalf of member co-ops, to get 20% of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020.
VII. Brenda Gimeson showed the 7 minute flood recovery video on Larimer County’s website.
VIII. Curtis Bridges announced that his position on the Ag. Advisory Board will not be renewed and that he will not be Chairman of the board come January, 2014. John Rankin, current Vice-Chairman of the AAB announced that he will not seek the position of Chairman of the Board in January.
IX. The next AAB meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 , at 12:30 p.m. at the CSU Larimer County Extension Office, 1525 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO.
X. The meeting was adjourned at 3:12 p.m.
