AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY BOARD
July 13, 2011
Members present: David Bee, Curtis Bridges, LuAnn Goodyear, Lew Grant, Minerva Lee, Val Manning, Brett Markham, Gail Meisner, George Reed, Jon Slutsky, and George Wallace. Others present: Linda Hoffmann, Staff Liaison, Lew Gaiter, County Commissioner and Charles Gindler, County Natural Resources.
Members absent: Justin Discoe, Dennis Goeltl, Jason Kraft, and Richard Seaworth
I. Val Manning, Chair called the meeting to order at 12:40 p.m.
II. The May 11 and June 27 minutes were reviewed and approved.
III. Committee member, David Bee submitted a draft letter to the County Commissioners regarding Save the Poudre Facts about Farming. Lew Grant distributed an outline to the response and it was discussed at length. The committee will revise the response with the input and submit to the County Commissioners.
IV. LuAnne Goodyear updated the Board on the Booth at the Larimer County Fair. She has arranged for a faucet with running water and two laptops for continued running of the informational Power Point Presentations from the Board. Please show up for your shift 15 minutes early and wear your AAB Name Tag while manning the booth. The AAB Booth is in the First National Bank Building South Hall in the Action Corner.
V. Commissioner Lew Gaiter discussed the AAB role. The Commissioners will request input from the Board as a group on policy matters. Input and opinions from individuals is always welcomed by the Commissioners but they should not be represented views from the AAB.
1. August 11 at noon, Cory Garner will be at the Glacier View Clubhouse.
2. Tonight, July 13, at 6:00, the Staff Engineers will have a work session on Ground water and their role in regulating and protecting water in Colorado and how these decisions tie to land use.
3. Grazing leases deadline is August 3, 4 & 5th at the www.larimer.org website.
4. Lew Grant informed the Board of the shortage of workers for harvesting vegetables this year. Possible solutions were discussed.
V. The next AAB meeting will be held on September 14, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at the CSU Larimer County Extension Office.
