Big Thompson Properties

Larimer County acquired approximately 153 parcels of land in the Big Thompson Canyon after the flood of 1976. The parcels range in size from less than a tenth of an acre to eight acres. The County has been considering the disposition of approximately 60 of these parcels. All potential transfers will be reviewed by the Parks Advisory Board. Parcel Transfer Updates

As of January 1, 2012, Larimer County has sold or traded 22 Big Thompson Flood parcels as follows:

Area 4 - Cotner Subdivision - 5 parcels sold and area is now completed.

Area 14 - Waltonia - 1 parcel sold. Others may be considered for disposition.

Area 12C - Drake Hayden Subdivision - 15 parcels sold or traded for public fishing access easements and the area is now completed.

Area 23 - 1 parcel sold and the area is now completed.

The Parks Advisory Board has listened to public comment, reviewed and approved parcel disposition plans for areas: 3 (Big Thompson Elementary School), 5 (Narrows), 7 (Indian Village), 12b (Drake next to Hwy. 34 bridge), 17 (south of Glen Comfort), 20 (on the Glen Haven Road). Surveying is underway in areas 5 and 7. Sales and/or trades will resume in 2012.
