Commissioner Eubanks Named Wilderness Hero

Larimer County Commissioner Randy Eubanks has been named Wilderness Hero for the month of October, 2008, by the non-profit national wilderness advocacy group Campaign for America's Wilderness. Eubanks is featured in the organization's October newsletter. The Campaign for America's Wilderness believed Eubanks has gone above and beyond while working for wilderness and they appreciate his commitment.

Commissioner Eubanks attended Wilderness Week in Washington D.C. September 7-10, 2008. Although this gathering of wilderness advocates and supporters from around the country converged to raise awareness of the nation's public wild lands and the need to protect them, Eubanks specifically attended to advocate for wilderness designation at Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), "My focus was Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado's crown jewel of wilderness. We in northern Coloradohave been blessed by having such a special place only a short drive away."

Eubanks was asked by wilderness advocates from The Wilderness Society, Colorado Environmental Coalition, and Campaign for America's Wilderness to travel with them to Washington, DCfor this issue, "Once we arrived we were told that those of us attending represented the largest group ever assembled for this effort. I learned that I would be the lead spokesman for RockyMountainNational Parkduring the week - what an honor and surprise."

He was offered a scholarship to attend Wilderness Week, as was his fellow commissioner the year before. Eubanks says "It is important to represent our constituents on important matters like RockyMountainNational Park."
