The Garbage Garage Education Center is one of 10 programs from across the state that the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education (CAEE) will honor at its February awards banquet for "leadership in developing effective, cooperative, cross-sector environmental education programs."
The Garbage Garage was selected to receive CAEE's 2007 Environmental Education Award for Excellence in the Government category.
Opened in 2003, the education center has welcomed thousands of visitors ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens, from a single visitor to groups of more than 100, and from areas as far away as Nebraska and North Carolina. Visitors learn about reducing, reusing and recycling; how landfills work; and how to safely handle household hazardous wastes as they browse the colorful and interactive displays. This is the third award the Garbage Garage has been honored with.
CAEE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting quality environmental education by facilitating communication, coordination and professional development among the varied environmental education programs in the state.
